Welcome to Class 3
THIS HALF TERM
In year 3 we have been receiving some mystery letters that appear to have been sent during WW2. The letters talk about how some evacuee children have found a magic wardrobe in their new home and how they enter the wardrobe and go through to a snowy land called Narnia.
We will be investigating the life of an evacuee child and studying the book The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S Lewis to find answers to why we are receiving these letters now 71 years after the war!
Due to changes in the National Curriculum for Writing we have decided to adopt a cursive script for handwriting for all children from Nursery up to Year 4. We have looked at the sheer volume of the curriculum for current Years 5 and 6 and feel they do not have the time to learn a new script, so teachers will be focussing on developing the handwriting style that those children already have mastered. There is a much heavier focus in the new curriculum on handwriting and a failure to master a clearly joined, legible handwriting script will not enable children to make progress through the curriculum fully.
We do appreciate that this is a change for our children to master but please rest assured School and Nursery staff are providing lots of opportunities for all the children to practise along with the adults too!
As well as this we will be spending a lot of time focusing on online safety and how we can be safe in the modern world.
