Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage

At Tanworth we follow Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage in Nursery and Reception. This covers seven areas of learning and development that shapes the educational programme in early years settings. All areas of learning are important and interconnected. Three areas are particularly crucial for igniting children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, and for building their capacity to learn, form relationships and thrive. The three prime areas are communication and language, physical development and Personal, social and emotional development.

The curriculum must also support children in four specific areas, through which the three prime areas are strengthened and applied. These are Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the world and Expressive arts and design.

The Early Years Foundation Stage Profile is the summative assessment of the foundation stage and provides a well-rounded picture of a child’s knowledge, understanding and abilities, their progress against expected levels, and their readiness for Year 1 where they will be taught the National Curriculum.

National Curriculum

Tanworth follows the National Curriculum 2014 and this along with the overall curriculum offers a broad and balanced curriculum which supports academic, social, moral and spiritual development. The curriculum promotes the preparation for, and an appreciation of life in modern Britain.  Please click this link for further details of the National Curriculum 2014: https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/national-curriculum

At Tanworth we teach a largely cross curricular/thematic approach which inspires children to learn and make links between subjects. Within our curriculum we teach important life skills such as working together, problem solving and resilience.

Some subjects are also taught discreetly in order to ensure the appropriate knowledge and skills are covered.

Each half term a new topic is introduced which is planned to cover the National Curriculum objectives. For details of our topics for this academic year please click here

Children have the opportunity to tell teachers what they already know and what they would like to learn. They also contribute ideas on how they would like to learn and present their learning. Please see our separate topic over view plan for the topics each class will be covering during the academic year.

The National Curriculum is split into core and foundation subjects. Please go to the subject tabs to see how we teach different areas within the curriculum and further information will be updated shortly.
