At Tanworth in Arden Church of England Primary School and Nursery we teach Mathematics using a creative approach. We follow the current National Curriculum for this subject.
In the Foundation Stage we use the ‘Mathematics’ section of the ‘Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage’ to inform our teaching.
In Key Stage One we use a ‘maths through story’ approach. Stories are used to provide a context for learning in all areas of mathematics.
In Key Stage Two we use a flexible grouping approach in our teaching of the subject to ensure that the learning needs of all children are met in the best possible way. We currently use the ‘Primary Mathematics Framework’ as a basis for our teaching.
Teaching is set in real-life contexts to ensure learning is meaningful. For example, when studying ‘Data Handling’, Year 6 looked at a range of graphs linked to films and cinema attendance, interpreting and analysing their meaning; this linked to the ‘Lights, Camera, Action’ topic.
